This programme offers the opportunity to develop practical screenwriting skills and techniques, and to apply them to writing briefs, together with the ability to evaluate the effectiveness of communicating ideas in script form.

A distinctive feature is a fast-track core module, which will enable graduates in other fields to gain detailed knowledge of screenwriting conventions, an understanding of common formats, and the ability to analyse a brief and evaluate one’s own writing within a commercial context. Armed with the core skills of the fast-track course, a subsequent module will develop your skills in writing a draft script in either film or television format.

Highlights

  • Attain a high standard of screenwriting practice and a thorough understanding of how narrative works on screen.
  • Graduates in other fields can achieve professional standards of practice and understanding of the industry.
  • Arts and humanities courses at Birkbeck are ranked third best in London and 13th in the UK in the Times Higher Education 2016-17 World University Subject Rankings.
