Leadership and Team Building

This course examines the role and importance of leadership and teams in organisations. It explores the mix of attributes, skills and capabilities required of successful leaders and the nature of team working, the process involved in building and marinating high performance teams, and the skills and attributes required of an effective team player.

Topics include:

  • An overview of leadership theory
  • The key characteristics of high-performing teams
  • Team building and the team development lifecycles
  • Team roles and responsibilities
  • The role of emotional intelligence in team building
  • The importance of leadership to successful teams.

Learning objectives

To develop an awareness and understanding about:

  • The role and importance of teams in organisations, the characteristics of effective teams and the strategies organisations pursue to create and build effective teams
  • The role of leadership in organisations and its key importance in developing high-performance teams
  • The individual skills and attributes we need to function as effective leaders and team players, so as to identify areas for development and growth.

This Short Course can be taken as a stand-alone course or it may be available as part of a Certificate of Higher Education.

    Most of our short courses have no formal entry requirements and are open to all students. You may have to fulfil specific prerequisites for some intermediate-level or advanced-level courses, but these will be specified where relevant.

If you wish to take more than one short course, you can select each one separately and then enrol onto them together via our online application portal. There is usually no formal selection process, although some modules may have prerequisites and/or other requirements, which will be specified where relevant.
