Theories of Development

Year of entry

This course introduces you to basic concepts and theories in development. It starts by defining poverty and development, before examining a range of 'mainstream' and 'alternative' development theories, including neo-liberalism and Marxism. You will look at instances of grassroots development and consider the challenges for development posed by globalisation.

This Short Course can be taken as a stand-alone course or it may be available as part of a Certificate of Higher Education.
