Student surveys and feedback

At Birkbeck, we take our students’ opinions and feedback seriously. Receiving student feedback helps us develop our provision and improve our students’ experience.

We invite students to tell us about their experience at Birkbeck in a variety of ways:

  • Module evaluation questionnaires: collecting students’ views on their experiences on each module
  • Annual student satisfaction surveys: including the National Student Survey, Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey and Postgraduate Research Experience Survey
  • Student Reps and school staff-student liaison meetings: contact your school if you would like to get involved in these
  • Senior College staff meet regularly with Birkbeck Students’ Union to gather their opinions and discuss issues that are important to students.

Why student feedback is important to Birkbeck and why we close the loop

We want to hear from you about your learning experience on your modules, to inform our practice and to ensure you have the best possible experience.

  • Your feedback leads to change. It’s also very useful to know what you have enjoyed and benefited from, so we can continue with these aspects.
  • The more students who complete feedback, the more confident we can be that it accurately reflects student opinion.
  • At the end of each module evaluation, the lecturers are invited to close the feedback loop, by sending details of any actions they will take.

Student satisfaction surveys

We email students with an invitation to complete a cross-College survey between February and May. These surveys are an important way for us to monitor the student experience.
