What's on during Orientation

Orientation is designed to give you the best start to life at Birkbeck.

The main Birkbeck Orientation event will take place on Saturday 29 September 2018, from 10.30am to 5pm at Malet Street, with the Students' Union Fresher's Fayre running alongside (see below for details).

During Orientation, you'll receive key information about studying at Birkbeck. The sessions will include a welcome from your School, a careers networking session, and an overview of the study skills and library resources needed to make the most of your time at university.

You'll receive an invitation to sign up for Orientation when you enrol. Or you can register now

There is a dedicated induction session for your programme. The induction session is an important part of becoming a Birkbeck student and we strongly advise you to attend, as well as registering for Birkbeck Orientation.

Study skills workshops

Get Ahead

Get Ahead workshops offer you the chance to brush up on the study skills you need to be successful at university. Separate events are arranged for undergraduate and postgraduate students and run weekly, from the end of August throughout September. We'll explore key academic skills including time management, critical thinking and note-taking, allowing you to choose the most relevant topics for your academic needs.

You can find recordings of these events on Panopto, in case you missed any sessions relevant to you.

Other study skills

In addition to the Get Ahead programme, Academic Writing toolkit workshops are taking place in September, which are open to all students. For students in the School of Business, Economics and Informatics, Mathematics study skills workshops are also available. See the Study Skills workshop calendar.

Freshers' Fayre

The Birkbeck's Students' Union Freshers' Fayre is taking place at the same time as Birkbeck orientation, on Saturday 29 September. Register for orientation and you will also have the opportunity to attend the Freshers' Fayre, join clubs and societies, and see what the Students' Union has in store for you. It's a great way to make friends and make the most of being a student.

The Student Central Freshers' event takes place on Friday 28 September. Located next door to the main Birkbeck building, Student Central is the hub of student life in London. Birkbeck students can use the sports and socialising facilities and join the clubs and societies.
