Santander Emerging Entrepreneurs Programme 2020

Birkbeck applications are open for a brand new programme being run by Santander Universities for emerging entrepreneurs.

The programme runs from May to September 2020, and the shortlisted finalist for Birkbeck will receive a range of business support, as well as the chance to win £30,000 equity free funding and a fully funded intern, among other prizes.

The support programme includes access to various support workshops and an accelerator ahead of a two-day national final where you will pitch your business.

Programme dates

  • Launch event: 28 May 2020
  • July accelerator: TBC
  • Final: 28-29 September 2020

Application criteria

  • To apply to be part of the Emerging Entrepreneurs Programme, you must meet the following criteria:
    • Your company must have been trading for no more than 18 months. Read about how Santander defines 'trading'.
    • You must be promoting/advertising your business publicly (e.g. with a public facing website) with the specific aim of attracting sales/users or investment in the next 6-12 months.
    • You have already made sales.
    • You have gained users e.g. app downloads.
    • You must be available to attend the launch event, accelerator and two-day final

Application timeline

  • Students must  with the title 'Santander Application - Your Name' by midnight on Sunday 29 March 2020
  • A panel of judges will choose one business to progress onto the Emerging Entrepreneurs Programme.
  • The selected business will attend a launch event in May, an accelerator event in July as well as pitch their business in the national final in September. 

Who can enter?

  • All applicants must be students or alumni who have officially graduated within three years of the date of submission from a Santander UK partner university. 
  • Throughout the process, applicants must be legally residing within the UK.
  • All businesses taking part in the competition must be registered UK companies.
  • All applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Students or alumni must own a majority share in the business and be responsible for the direction and leadership of the organisation. This would normally include holding the title of CEO, Founder or Co-Founder.
