Joshua Oware

Joshua Oware research explores the specious ontologies of race. Previously, he was both a Cambridge University sociologist (M.Phil.), and Oxford University geographer (Ba(Hons)). At the latter, on a scholarship he graduated with his cohort’s highest First.

At a time that appears both ripe with the possibilities of portentous change (figure-headed, perhaps, by #BlackLivesMatter), yet overcome by a paralysing – intergenerational – sense of déjà vu (racism’s intransigence), Josh will be exploring how we might re-engage the specious ontologies of race. Couched within other, recent experimental postmodern ecological approaches to thought and action, and inspired by current work on nonrepresentational theory and affect, his project asks whether being present in the racial struggles of our time ought to require new modes of attunement, and new methods of approach.
