Event description

Would you like to apply for any of our undergraduate degree courses? It doesn’t matter if it’s still just an idea or if you’ve found your dream course and want to know how to get a place, Get Started is for you! This month's Get Started is a collaborative event with UCL. There will be the opportunity to speak with current students and take part in a student led tour of both UCL and Birkbeck.

Come along to this friendly, interactive workshop where members of the Widening Access team will be on hand to help you with the next steps.

The workshop will outline fees and funding, provide practical tips on writing an application and explain what will be expected of you as a Birkbeck student. The aim is to get you ready to start your application and we'll make sure there's plenty of opportunities to ask questions and chat to other people who are also just starting their journey to Higher Education.

The session is broken down into three sections with a break and refreshments provided between each one:

1. Preparing to Study

  • This section examines the benefits of higher education. We ask attendees to consider their personal motivations for studying, identify possible challenges and present realistic solutions. The session also includes information on Birkbeck Student Services; including study skills and disability support. Attendees will then put together an action plan as to what they need to do to prepare for their course.

2. Student Fees and Finance

3. Making an Application

  • This final session gives an overview of how to make an application to Birkbeck, offering practical advice to help prospective students demonstrate their experience and commitment to their subject. The workshop is not subject-specific, and does not give feedback on individual personal statements, but aims to give prospective students the knowledge and technique to be able to produce a successful Personal Statement.

These free sessions are intended for applications for undergraduate degree courses only, not for postgraduate degrees. These events are not subject specific so we are unable to advise regarding individual entry requirements, but please be aware that an IELTS score of 6.5 or above is required for most courses if English is not your first language.

If you are unable to attend this event you may be interested in attending one of our other monthly Get Started events. Please see for future dates or email for more information.
