'Among the Iberian and Latin American Cultural Studies schools in London, Birkbeck has a special strength.
'It is distinguished by its critical and creative character. Critical, because its staff are theoretically updated, also because of the way in which they put that knowledge into practice. Instead of working from an abstract or essentialist notion of Iberian or Latin-American identity, the political, social and cultural particularities are always acknowledged from their historical moment.
'On the other hand, innovative proposals are always welcome and, moreover, are somehow required. This kind of approach invites me to rethink the past from the tensions of the present in a responsible way. It also challenges me to look for new strategies to analyse my research topic and try different methods.'
