Our research
The Department of Iberian and Latin American Studies is renowned for the world-class level and innovative scope of its research.
Our work is distinguished by its innovative character, its engagement with other disciplines and its challenge to received ideas. We are committed to continual rethinking of the fields we research and the subjects we teach, creatively and critically.
In 2008, 20% of our research activity was awarded 4* in the Research Assessment Exercise (RAE). This is the highest mark possible, denoting research that is world-leading in its originality, significance and rigour. In addition, 40% of our research was awarded 3*, indicating work judged to be internationally excellent.
We have achieved notable success in obtaining external funding for research - find out more about our current research projects.
We also host a new Centre for Iberian and Latin American Visual Studies (CILAVS), which is committed to generating new ideas in the field of visual culture and has attracted internationally recognised academics and artists in the field.
