Relics and Selves exhibition
Birkbeck's Postgraduate Programme in Spanish and Latin American Visual Culture is host to the first ever interactive online exhibition of the Iberoamerican Museum of Visual Culture.
Relics and Selves is the result of collaboration between historians, literary critics, anthropologists and art critics from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, the US and Europe.
This unique exhibition featuring more than 3,000 images focuses on the national iconographies of three Latin American countries in the final decades of the nineteenth century.
Visitors to the exhibition are able to arrange the images themselves according to their own interests, creating a visual collection that allows them to tackle questions about identity, visuality, alterity and power that the images call forth.
