Teaching responsibilities
- My role consists of convening the Social Sciences and Business Studies pathways on the Higher Education Introductory Studies Certificate programme.
- I teach a number of modules on the Certificate including Politics, Sociology and Approaches to study.
- I am also responsible for developing collaborative partnerships with public and voluntary sector organisations, so that the Higher Education Introductory Studies programme can be offered in a community setting.
Profile
- I have worked as a lecturer at a number of universities in the London region including Goldsmiths, University of London, the University of Westminster and the University of Greenwich. I have substantial experience of teaching across a range of academic disciplines at undergraduate level; and have designed and taught courses in politics, international relations, economics, political economy, sociology and social policy.
- I have also had a significant amount of experience in programme co-ordination, project management and curriculum development; both in a continuing and community education context. At Goldsmiths I co-ordinated the interdisciplinary BA in Social and Cultural Studies and developed and managed various widening participation projects. In a community context, I worked for Community Education Lewisham (1995-2000) where I managed the Community Studies curriculum and set up a series of community development initiatives.
Research interests
- My interests have a strong interdisciplinary focus and include social and political theories of power, political economy and globalization. In the field of education my interests are critical approaches to teaching and learning, interdisciplinary study and educational equality and access with specific reference to higher education.
