Current responsibilities

  • As part of the Higher Education Introductory Studies (HEIS) team, my role includes the maintenance and development of the Health and Social Care pathway of the HEIS Certificate.
  • I teach a number of the modules on the Higher Education Introductory Studies (HEIS) Certificate including Approaches to Study for Nursing Midwifery and Health and Social and Behavioural Studies for Health Professions. 
  • I also teach the Introduction to Lifelong Learning and Personal Development Planning module on Birkbeck’s Foundation Degree in Pharmacy.  My role includes the provision of academic support for students taking the HEIS programme; advice and guidance on student progression and the identification of opportunities for collaboration with other organisations to provide pathways onto and beyond the HEIS programme.

Employment history

  • I joined Birkbeck in January 2010 as a 0.5 Associate Lecturer in the Higher Education Introductory Studies programme. In the nine years prior to joining Birkbeck I taught Midwifery at Kings College, London, where I was responsible for the delivery of the Social Science components of the Midwifery programme alongside other teaching and administrative roles.
  • I have also practised within the NHS as both a midwife and nurse.
