Training from Birkbeck Health and Safety Services


Online Training

Online training is available via our Awaken web-based system at https://birkbeck.awaken-be.com. Follow link and log-in with your College Username and Password. Induction training is automatically assigned to new users. On Tuesday 12th December 2017, the online training system was experiencing disruptions. The access has been restored from Wednesday 12th December 2017.

Other subjects include: Fire Safety Awareness, Safe use of Computer Workstations and online DSE risk assessment and Health and Safety for Managers. Other subjects will be coming soon. In the meantime if you wish to do one of these course please contact Health and Safety Services.

Fire safety refresher training

Staff are required to have regular refresher training in Fire Safety every two years. This will be via the online service and you will receive an email inviting you to complete the training. It should take about 20 minutes.

Emergency First Aid at Work - 1 Day course for College First Aiders

A one-day course for employees to become qualified as First Aiders, On successful completion the attendee will receive an Emergency First Aid at Work Certificate. This course will be facilitated by an external provider from Clarendon Training.

This one-day course is for all staff at Birkbeck, University of London who are responsible for fire safety, especially departmental and area fire wardens. People who pass the assessment will be awarded the Level 2 Award in Fire Safety.

CIEHF Certificate In DSE Assessment Course

This CIEHF (Chartered Institute of Ergonomics & Human Factors) Display Screen Equipment assessor course is ran by enricoSmog for staff who are to become Display Screen Equipment (VDU) assessors within their Departments and Schools at Birkbeck College. This one day course introduces the main requirements for safely setting up a computer workstation and consideration is given to some of the negative impacts a poorly designed station can have on the body. IOSH Managing Safely
