Use of Candles, Fireworks and Bar-B-Qs

As a general rule, due to the risk of fire or unwanted activation of the fire alarm, candles, fireworks or bar-b-qs are not allowed to be used on Birkbeck premises.  The one current exception is the use of table candles at formal dinner functions in the Council Room - risk assessment of that situation does not foresee misuse or accidental setting alight of clothing etc. 

Any person wishing to use candles, fireworks or bar-b-qs on Birkbeck premises would require the prior permission of the Birkbeck Fire Officer.  The granting or not of such permission would be subject to careful risk assessment of the proposed use - though at present no situation is envisaged where permission would be forthcoming.
