The first sculpture park in Chile opened in February, 2001 with work of 20 sculptors who spent four weeks in this hot dusty plain two hours by car north on Santiago to make site specific sculptures. Each artist was asked to convert 2-wheel wooden oxen carts, formerly used to haul crops, into sculptures. The park consists of 200 acres joint owned by 80 residents who live around the edge of the park.

The 30-hectare grounds of Parque Saval hosts the sculpture park, located on the shore of a water lily pond. Over 30 sculptures in wood and metal are on display, created by national and international artists during the annual Valdivia International Sculpture Symposium (since 1995). The symposium takes place each February, organised by the Corporación Cultural Municipal de Valdivia (the Valdivia Municipal Cultural Corporation). Works created onsite are selected to remain in the park permanently.

Open daily.
