Ile de Vassiviere,
Beaumont du Lac 87120,
(Near Limoges)
Tel: 05-55-69-27-27
E: art@ciapiledevassiviere.com

The island of Vassiviere is a site for sculpture and land art, located in woodlands, forests and open meadows. The island itself has been treated as, and is considered, a postmodern earth work by the Centre International d'art et du Paysage, crafted to create a new territory devoted to contemporary art.

The sculpture woodland welcomes international artists conceiving permanent and temporary works, monumental or discreet. At the start of this island project the Art Centre invited artists to produce works in situ. Andy Goldsworthy, Marylène Negro, and Michelangelo Pistoletto among others, created  works for the island, inspired by the place and its history. Later artists were invited to respond to the landscape and environment, with Gilles Clément for instance working toward a landscape plan for the Vassivière territory.

The integration of new works in the sculpture woodland by Adel Abdessemed, Marco Boggio Sella, Yona Friedman, Ilya et Emila Kabakov, Olivier Mosset, Victor Man and Michael Sailstorfer is creating a new dynamic in this park, which now hosts around 50 artworks.

Open all year round, free of charge.
