Located on the island of Naoshima, the Benesse Art Site features numerous outdoor site-specific works by artists such as Yayoi Kusama, Dan Graham,  Niki de Saint Phalle, and Cai Guo-Qiang. The art site also includes Benesse House, the location of the Naoshima Contemporary Art Museum featuring commissioned works by Richard Long, Kan Yasuda and Hiroshi Sugimoto; the Art House Project; and the Chichu Art Museum with site-specific installations by artists such as James Turrell and Walter Di Maria.

Opened in 1983, this museum is dedicated to the work of  photographer, Domon Ken (1909-1990)  Hiroshi Teshigawara designed the museum garden featuring work by Isamu Noguichi designed specifically for the site.

Established in 1969, Hakone Open-Air Museum was the first museum in Japan dedicated to outdoor sculpture and was one of the early models for the modern sculpture park. Situated in the foothills of Mount Fujiyama, Hakone has a most dramatic setting with over 70,000 meters of  landscaped hills and includes over 200 sculptures by internationally sculptors such as Marta Pan, Carl Milles, and Alicia Penalba. The museum has the largest collection of Henry Moore sculptures outside of the U.K. The site also features the Picasso Pavilion and an indoor gallery for smaller works by artists like Louise Bourgeois, Jean Arp, and Max Ernst.

The Hakone Open-air Museum is open daily from 9am till 5pm. Admission is charged. The sister museum is the Utsukushi-Ga-Hara Open-Air Museum.

The Isamu Noguchi Garden Museum preserves and presents the Mure studio and 150 works of Noguchi (some of which are unfinished) in conjunction with The Noguchi Museum and Sculpture Gardens in Long Island City, New York.

Admission is charged. Open seasons vary, check website for up to date information.

Ten years in the making, the Open-Air Museum opened in October 2000 with commissioned works by 20 international sculptors. Sculptors include Jonathan Borofsky, Luciano Fabro, Antony Gormley, Philip King, Yayoi Kusama, Katsura Funakoshi and Ulrich Ruckriem. The museum also features an indoor collection are another 33 works by artists including Jenny Holzer, Donald Judd, Richard Long, Niki de Saint-Phalle, Eri Takayanagi and Isamu Noguchi.

The museum is open Tuesdays to Sundays from 9am till 5pm. Admission is charged.

Isamu Noguchi designed the master plan for Moerenuma just before he died in New York in 1988. Noguichi's monumental 'Moere Mountain'  were part of the master plan design. The site also includes "Forest of Cherry Trees" featuring play equipment in sculptural form designed by Noguchi, "Tetra Mound", "Sea Fountain", and "Aqua Plaza." Construction on the park began the year after Noguchi's death and final completion of the full 189 ha. site was March 2005.

Reimei Hill, ("hill of communications") is located within Schole Kikuchi Kougen Sports Park and is part of Aso National Park, on Japan’s Southernmost island, Kyushu. On exhibit are more than 15 works by national and international artists, including Amore, Chowe, Hiroki, James, Ogai, Ramersdorfer, Tada, Takamoto, Uda, and Yoshi.

The sculpture garden in Sapporo Art Park features over seventy sculptures by regional and international sculptors, including site-specific works, are located in the 7.5 hectares park. The site is also home to the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sapporo. There is a visitor centre, several studio buildings, an outdoor stage, and an art hall for performance and music.

This urban park features sculptures sited outside the entrance to Yokahoma Station include works by national and international artists including Asukura, Borubelle, Marini, and Yanagihara.

Within the Shizuoka Prefecture Art Museum is a promenade of twelve sculptures by Japanese artists such as Funakoshi and Yanagihara, and international sculptors such as George Rickey and Tony Smith. The outdoor promenade leads visitors to the Rodin wing of the museum featuring numerous works including The Gates of Hell, The Thinker, and The Burghers of Calais.

The Museum is open from 10:00 till 5.30  Tuesdays to Sundays only. Admission is charged.

This sister museum to Hakone Open-Air Museum is located in the Yatsugatake-Chushin-Kogen-Quasi National Park. The site features work by contemporary sculptures by Hongo, Kimura, Luginbuhl, Sekine, Shintani, Ushio, and others can be view against the mountainous backdrop of the region.  Open everyday from Apr. to mid-Nov., 9:00a.m. to 5:00p.m.
