Advice, guidance and training are available for all Birkbeck researchers who want to disseminate their research to the public. 

One-to-one guidance 

  • to discuss: 
    • your ideas for public engagement 
    • formulating an achievable and measurable engagement plan before writing a grant proposal. 

Workshops on Planning public engagement 

  • These skills-focused workshops provide information and ideas to plan your engagement activity. These are perfect for anyone new to engagement or those looking to engage differently.
  • You can book for a scheduled date or contact us to request a session for your department.

symposiums on public engagement 

  • Our annual symposiums give you the opportunity to discuss engagement with colleagues from across the College. You can share your experiences, discuss challenges, hear about others’ projects and seek inspiration. 
  • Themed events will enable cross-school knowledge exchange and develop connections between the Public Engagement Team and schools. Events will be open to all staff and postgrad students.

  • If you are running a public engagement event, you might find our Event Toolkit useful. It will:
    • prompt you to consider relevant aspects of planning and logistics
    • provide checklists to ensure that you've thought of everything
    • signpost you to sources of support
    • guide you through the processes of promotion and evaluation
    • provide case studies of events already successfully run.
