Our internship programme

Thanks to a funding grant, the Peltz Gallery provided curatorial and professional training for some of Birkbeck’s postgraduate students through an internship programme, from 2015 to 2018.

Here's what our interns had to say about the experience:

  • Shijia Yu, gallery intern 2017-18: 'My internship experience at the Peltz Gallery has been very fruitful and has helped me in developing skills and knowledge from different aspects.'
  • Ralph Day, gallery intern 2017-18: 'As well as promoting public events at the Peltz and supporting the install of exhibitions, the major part of my work as an intern has been conceiving, organising and facilitating a public engagement event.'
  • Elena Shampanova, gallery intern 2017-18: 'Overall, I feel that this internship is a unique way to gain hands-on experience of running a gallery in an academic setting, from shaping a yearly plan of exhibitions to learning all the technicalities of lighting and sound in the space, as well as organising and running public events.'
  • Alistair Cartwright, gallery intern 2016-17: 'During my time as an intern, I organised three workshops with school students and young people. It was great to have the support and the opportunity to build new skills and put together a set of events that hopefully added something to the overall programme and brought in new audiences.'
  • Elizabeth Johnson, gallery intern 2016-17: 'Before starting my PhD, I was an exhibition organiser and so, although much of the work was second nature, it was a good opportunity to refresh that area of my CV.'
