Engaged Practice Symposium – Monday 24 June

Engaged Practice Symposium – Monday 24 June

Join us for an afternoon of inspiration, reflection and making connections. Hear about Birkbeck researchers’ public engagement, have a go at some innovative engagement activities and talk to researchers and public engagement professionals from across London.

The Birkbeck Public Engagement Team has been part-funded by UK Research & Innovation for the past two years, enabling growth in both the team and their support across the College. As this grant concludes, we want to reflect upon what has been achieved and celebrate the people we’ve worked with; sharing our stories and experiences.

Interested in leading a walking tour in Bloomsbury?

Bloomsbury Festival will take place 11 – 20 October 2019, with the theme ‘Small Steps and Giant Leaps’, inspired by the 50th anniversary of the moon landing.

A range of events will take place during the festival, which many researchers propose and lead, or contribute to in various ways. The walking tours will last 60-90 minutes and provide an opportunity to share your local knowledge and passion with the public. This could be about historic figures, architecture, how the area has evolved, literature, arts, etc.  If you would like to propose a route or any other activity, contact k.glazer@bbk.ac.uk who can make relevant introductions with the festival organisers.

Einstein’s Garden at Green Man Festival

Einstein’s Garden fuses together performance, art, music and public engagement with research and brings science and the environment to life in fun and unusual ways. They are on the lookout for research groups and scientific organisations that would like to bring a stall to Einstein’s Garden with the aim of engaging festival audiences with science. Stalls can explore fundamental scientific ideas or phenomena, the process of science or current scientific research. It is essential that stalls include as much interactivity and participation as possible for festival goers and that they embody the creative and playful spirit of Einstein’s Garden.

Deadline for applications: Monday 15th April 2019
