Four new workshops are offered to PhD and Postdoc researchers, focusing on different types of public engagement. Anyone with an interest is welcome to attend, from any School/subject.

Birkbeck’s Public Engagement Award Winners Announced!

The inaugural Public Engagement Awards were held on Monday 19th March to recognise and celebrate the myriad ways that Birkbeck scholars work with the public and communities to make their research accessible and to include non-academic expertise.

With 25 projects in the running for an award, in excess of 60 guests attended the ceremony and reception, where the winners were announced for each of the five categories, while a further 10 projects were highly commended.

Green Man Festival – Science Stalls, application deadline 14 April

Apply to run a science stall in Einstein’s Garden, Green Man’s area of science and nature.

Stalls can explore any science related topic and must include as much interactivity and participation as possible for festival goers; embodying the creative and playful spirit of Einstein’s Garden.

Artist Alex Julyan is in conversation with Choreographer Lea Tirabasso to explore how working with a philosopher, a cancer specialist and a geneticist has influenced her new dance piece.

The Royal Society – School Partnership Grants

Primary and Secondary schools can apply for funding to carry out science, technology, engineering, mathematics computing or data science, in partnership with researchers. The application must be initiated by the school but researchers may like to suggest this partnership opportunity to any teacher contacts.  Contact the Public Engagement Team to discuss an application.

Grants available up to £3,000

Science Museum Lates

On the last Wednesday of each month the Science Museum closes late, letting adults enjoy some themed, interactive fun.

Researchers can run drop-in activities, talks or workshops for groups throughout the evening. Themes are explored broadly and expertise from outside of science is welcomed. If you are interested in any of the themes below, contact the Public Engagement team for more information.
