Birkbeck Student Survey (BSS)

The Birkbeck Student Survey (BSS) is an internal student satisfaction survey managed and run by the Academic Standards and Quality team in collaboration with other staff groups around the college, during the spring term of each year. The survey questions are the same as the questions which form the NSS, to enable the College to understand our student’s experience prior to their final year.

All undergraduate students who are not in their final year are contacted directly by and invited to complete the 23 question survey online. Students are given the option to complete the questionnaire in hard copy.

What happens with the results?

BSS results are considered as part of the College’s annual programme monitoring process as well as being discussed at the autumn term Teaching and Quality Enhancement Committee.

The PVM Learning & Teaching also meets with Executive Deans and ADs Learning & Teaching of each School to discuss results and invite departments/programmes to develop an action plan to address any issues raised by students.
