Academic Registrar’s Office

The Academic Registrar is responsible for the overall management of Registry Services, leading its staff and managing and developing its activities.

Academic Services and Research

The role of the Academic Services unit is to ensure the efficient operation of the College’s academic governance arrangements; To support and co-ordinate the development, approval and implementation of academic policy and regulation and to inform the College on the development of academic strategy. It incorporates the Research Student Unit who oversee all aspects of research student administration (except for admissions which is overseen by the Student Administration Unit).

Central Collaborative Provision

Central and Collaborative provision (CCP) is part of Registry Services. CCP is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the administration, promotion and development of provision in a number of areas across Birkbeck including cross-college teaching and collaborative arrangements.

Disability Office

The DO provides a comprehensive advice and support service for disabled students, including advice on disability access and provision at the College generally, assistance in applying for the Disabled Students Allowance and ordering DSA funded specialist equipment and personal support, providing dyslexia screening and arranging diagnostic assessments, providing mentoring support and making special examination arrangements.

The DO is also responsible for assessing disabled students needs and drafting and circulating Individual Student Support Agreement forms to staff in Schools and Professional Services to inform them of the reasonable adjustments they should make for disabled students.

Examinations and Assessment

The Examinations and Assessments Office in Registry Services is now responsible for the examining and processing of results and awards to all Birkbeck students on taught programmes –

         Extra-Mural Certificates and Diplomas,
         Certificates and Diplomas of Higher Education both to open modular enrolment programmes and programme application programmes,
         College Certificates of Continuing Education,
         Foundation Degrees,
         Bachelor Degrees,
         Graduate Certificates and Diplomas,
         Masters Degrees and Postgraduate Certificates and Diplomas,
         Any taught modules required by MPhil and PhD students.

Operations and Projects

The Operations and Projects section of Registry Services is responsible for co-ordinating cross-Registry activities and projects. Including; E-admissions, Accreditation of Prior Learning and Stratford Administration.

Quality Enhancement and Validation

The Quality Enhancement and Validation (QEV) section of Registry Services at Birkbeck is responsible for co-ordinating and ensuring the effectiveness of the College's internal quality assurance/enhancement structures and programme approval mechanisms.

Student Administration

Student Centre

Student Financial Support Office

The Student Financial Support Office provides information and advice on the different types of financial support available to students.  This includes Government Statutory funding, Government discretionary funding and College Hardship funds, as well as a limited number of bursaries funded by donors.

All funds have eligibility criteria and are means tested; we do not have anything available for overseas fee paying students.  The majority of funding focuses on undergraduate (non-ELQ) students but any student enquiring about funding should be encouraged to check the website first and then if they have specific questions, make contact with SFSO by phone or in person via the My Birkbeck Helpdesk.
