Notification of results of MPhil and PhD examinations
Once the examiners have reached a decision on your thesis, you will be notified of your results by the University of London's Academic Registrar.
If you have any questions about the following, you should contact the University of London Research Degrees Examination Office.
Candidates who are successful in the examination
If you are successful in the examination, you will need to submit two bound copies of your thesis with the Academic Registrar of the University of London, in line with the instructions and notes on submission, format and binding (see below). Your degree may be withheld if you do not to do so.
Once you have done this, you will be sent a diploma under the seal of the University. The diploma for the degree will bear your name in the form in which they appear in the records of the College at the date of issue.
Please note: The award of the degree will be withheld from any candidate in arrears to the University or part thereof.
Candidates who are unsuccessful in the examination
If you do not satisfy the examiners for the degree of PhD, but are permitted to resubmit your thesis within a given period, you must resubmit the following forms:
- Entry form for PhD
- Description of thesis form
- Abstract of thesis form
- Declaration of number of words
- Address labels
You must also pay an examination re-entry fee.
If you fail to satisfy the examiners a second time, you will not be permitted to re-enter for the examination. You may, however, apply to a College to register for another course of study leading to the submission of a thesis on a different topic.
If you do not satisfy the examiners for the degree of PhD, it may be agreed that you have reached the standard of MPhil. In such cases you must indicate within two months that you wish to be considered for the degree of MPhil. If you do not you will be informed you have failed to satisfy the examiners for the degree of PhD, and you can no longer be considered for the award of the MPhil degree.
