Gareth Jenkins, Leaps Brusquely
(Rhyl: Long Tenpin Books, 2003), 48pp.

Nothing like Eminem. Nothing like my yucca plant refusing to die. Nothing like a small town in the Pyrenees in Lent. Nothing like a painful occupation. Nothing like Kandinsky’s Composition IV. Nothing like Chick Corea. Nothing like the ocular shimmer of my beloved undressed. Nothing like the Krebs Cycle. Nothing like swag. Nothing like a swagger-stick oompah noise and crowds. Nothing like an infinite generative grammar, or any of that. Nothing like Pat Barker. Nothing like Dutch portraiture. Nothing like fish rising to take the fly in spring.

Nothing like a small town refusing to die. Nothing like my painful composition in spring. Nothing like an undressed Krebs. Nothing like Kandinsky’s ocular shimmer, or the Chick Cycle. Nothing like an infinite generative oompah noise and swag. Nothing like a Lent Barker refusing to plant. Nothing like the flies rising from occupation. Nothing like a swagger-stick shimmer taking the crowds, Pat. Nothing like my beloved Pyrenees fish. Nothing like a portraiture swagged by Corea’s pain, or any of that. Nothing like any Dutch yucca. Nothing like Eminem.
