Curriculum vitae

  • Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Birkbeck, University of London (2014-2016)
  • PhD Candidate, School of Psychology, University of Sussex (2011-2014)
  • MSc Health Psychology (Distinction), University of Sussex (2010-2011)

Research interests

  • I am interested in applied social psychology with particular interest in health psychology, alcohol health promotion, drinking behaviour, behavioural interventions, gender and sexuality, youth and adolescence and mixed methods research. My ESRC-funded PhD titled ‘Non-drinkers and Non-drinking: A Mixed Methods Research Programme to Promote Safer Student Alcohol Consumption’ was completed at Sussex University. Research outputs from this mixed methods programme have been published in peer reviewed publications including British Journal of Health Psychology, Psychology and Health and Journal of Health Psychology.
  • Current projects: I am working with Professor Jonathan Smith at Birkbeck, University of London, and Dr Stephen Butler at University College London on an NIHR funded study designed to explore adolescents with conduct disorders’ experiences of multisystemic therapy. This is a qualitative sub-study of the broader ‘START’ research programme, a major randomized controlled trial spread across 9 UK sites investigating a form of intervention for young people and their families who are experiencing difficulties at home, at school and sometimes with the law. Further information on the START trial.
Birkbeck Research blog post: Rehearsing 'why' and 'how' not to drink alcohol during social occasions may help promote safer student drinking.
