Birkbeck is one of 14 Doctoral Training Partnerships (DTP) funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) for 2017-23 to provide support for Masters students considering PhD study in London. The studentships are awarded through the UCL, Bloomsbury and University of East London Doctoral Training Partnership.

The Department of Psychological Sciences is leading the psychology pathway, under the research direction of Professor Michael Thomas.

DTPs training focuses on providing skills such as:

  • working in interdisciplinary teams
  • communicating research ideas and findings clearly
  • working alongside international partners
  • being equipped to undertake high-quality analytical work
  • handling different forms of data
  • collaborating with others

How to apply and application deadline

PhD applications for ESRC studentships begin with an internal application to the department (eg. Birkbeck or UCL) where you wish to pursue your studies. The first step in your internal application should be making informal contact with potential supervisors to explore their availability to supervise and to discuss a potential project of common interest.

Application deadline: Friday 6 January 2017
