CBCD announces co-funded research studentship investigating visual attention

ESRC DTP funded research will investigate how infant and caregiver interaction influences social development.

The Centre for Brain and Cognitive Development (CBCD), Department of Psychological Sciences, Birkbeck, University of London, and Acuity Intelligence Ltd, are pleased to offer a full scholarship for a 3-year (or 1+3 year) UCL, Bloomsbury and East London Doctoral Training Partnership collaborative PhD studentship.

Understanding interactions between infant and caregiver

The project will investigate the challenge of applying head-mounted eye-tracking to quantifying and understanding naturalistic social attention during infancy. This work will shed light on the role of caregivers in helping infants to learn about the social world and the subtle behavioural variations for typical and atypical social development. In turn, this work will provide the foundation for improved future interventions and objective measures for their efficacy.

The successful candidate will work with leading CBCD academics in the fields of active vision (Dr Tim Smith) and developmental cognition (Dr Atsushi Senju), together with technical expertise from Acuity Intelligence Ltd.
