Alternatives to degree study
Where space permits, most Birkbeck Schools welcome associate students, who may attend parts of a degree programme.
Associate students
You may wish to attend a specific course of lectures for general interest, without writing essays or joining discussion groups. Alternatively, you may want to participate fully in part of a degree programme: to attend lectures, take part in seminars and practical sessions, and submit written work, without actually proceeding to a degree. At Birkbeck, we refer to these students as associate students.
How to apply
Associate students are admitted by interview. Priority for places is given to students intending to complete degrees, so you should check the likely availability of associate student places early on with the appropriate admissions tutor. For more information, please contact the department listed on the relevant course description.
