How long does it take to do a full-time evening degree at Birkbeck?
- As with typical full-time programmes elsewhere, Birkbeck’s full-time undergraduate degrees take three years to complete. The difference is that at Birkbeck classes take place over three to four evenings during the week, between October and June.
Fees, student loans and financial support
- From 2012, for the first time, getting a university education is accessible and affordable for everyone, whether you choose to study part-time or full-time. For most Birkbeck students, university will be free at the point of study, as you will be able to access government student loans and grants.
- Birkbeck has a generous financial package for students in need. It will complement the new student loan scheme.
How do I apply?
- Applications for all full-time undergraduate degrees are made via:
- Universities, Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS): gives a listing of all the courses available and the qualifications you will need.
- Information for international students wishing to study in the UK can be found on the UKCISA site.
What happens once I have submitted my application to UCAS?
- UCAS will provide Birkbeck with access to your application, which will be reviewed by an academic member of staff, who will make a decision as to whether you are successful in gaining a place.
- If you are successful, confirmation will be sent to UCAS, who will then update your TRACK account with the confirmation details.
- UCAS will send you a confirmation letter once your place has been officially confirmed.
Is there accommodation available for Birkbeck students?
- Full-time students can apply for accommodation in the University of London’s halls of residence in central London, where Birkbeck has a quota of rooms. See the University of London Housing Services for further information.
What if I want to study part-time?
- Our four-year, part-time University of London degrees are a great alternative to full-time undergraduate study. We offer over 70 part-time, evening undergraduate degrees starting in October 2012.
- For most Birkbeck students, university will be free at the point of study, as you will be able to access government student loans to cover the full cost of tuition fees. This means that you don’t have to pay for your course yourself upfront if you are studying for a certificate of higher education or undergraduate programme for the first time.
