Student loan not an option for you?

Starting your studies: but not eligible for a student loan or don’t want to take out a student loan?

Interest-free payment scheme

Birkbeck has developed a generous interest-free payment scheme to ease the burden for students not eligible for loans, or who do not wish to take out a student loan.

Under the scheme, most new students enrolling for an undergraduate or Certificate of Higher Education programme will be able to pay their fees in 9–14 instalments at no extra cost. (Note that the number of instalments will vary according to when you enrol and the length of your course.)

Graduate certificates

If you are not eligible for a student loan because you already have an equivalent level qualification, you may be interested in our range of graduate certificate or master's level courses.

  • The recent Government’s changes to university fees and funding currently only affect undergraduate courses (e.g. BA, BSc, LLB, Foundation Degree, Certificate of Higher Education), not postgraduate courses (MA, MSc, LLM, PhD). Programme fees are subject to annual increases and are not fixed for the duration of a programme of study.
  • It is not always necessary to hold a previous qualification in the subject area that you wish to follow, particularly if you can demonstrate relevant work experience.
