Clearing - applying to start our full-time undergraduate courses starting in October 2011
Clearing is a service that operates between July and September, offering full-time undergraduate applicants without places a final opportunity to be considered by institutions with vacancies for a place at university starting October 2011.
Who is eligible?
- As an applicant, you are normally eligible to apply through Clearing if you have registered with UCAS and are in one of the following categories:
- You have not received any offers.
- You have declined all of your offers or did not respond by the deadline set.
- Your offers have not been confirmed because you have not met the conditions (e.g. you have not achieved the grades required).
- You have declined a changed course, a changed date of entry and/or changed point of entry offer.
- You applied after 30 June 2011 (UCAS does not process applications made after this date).
- You haven't yet applied for a course but now wish to.
- See our advice below if you have not yet registered with UCAS.
What full-time undergraduate degrees do we offer (and which ones still have places)?
- We offer the following full-time University of London undergraduate degrees, starting October 2011:
- Geology (BSc): no places available
- History (BA): no places available
- Law (LLB) no places available
- Philosophy (BA): no places available
- Psychology (BSc)
- Applications for these full-time undergraduate degrees must be made through UCAS.
How to apply (if you are already registered with UCAS)
- Check Track on the UCAS web site to see if you're eligible to use Clearing.
- It is important that you check Track, as UCAS will not send you anything in the post to tell you if you are eligible. If you are eligible for Clearing, an 'Add Clearing choice' button will appear on your Track 'choices' screen, which you can use to apply for a course
- UCAS Track will also give you a unique Clearing Number, displayed on the ‘welcome’ and ‘choices’ pages. You will need to make a note of your Clearing Number, as you will be asked to quote it upon contacting Birkbeck in order for your application to be considered
- Once you have your exam results, you can call us (see below for details) to speak to specialist staff dealing specifically with Clearing-related enquiries
How to apply (if you have not yet applied through UCAS)
- If you have not yet applied through UCAS, you can contact us (see below for details of how to contact us on our Clearing Hotline) to ask for further advice regarding making an application.
- If you are successful in gaining a place at Birkbeck, we will make a check with UCAS to check that you are not already 'in UCAS'. As long as you aren't, we will be able to submit a Record of Prior Acceptance Form (RPA) on your behalf. UCAS will then send formal notification of the offer to you.
- Note: This procedure is only available to record the acceptance of students who have not previously applied through UCAS and cannot be used for speculative applications.
Contacting Birkbeck via the Clearing Hotline
- The Birkbeck Clearing Hotline number is 0207 631 6810. You can contact us on this number from: Monday to Friday: 12pm-5pm.
- If you are going to call, please note that you will need the following details:
- The title of the course you wish to study
- Your qualifications/results
- Your UCAS Clearing number (if you have already registered with UCAS - see above for instructions on how to apply if you have not already registered with UCAS)
- Your contact details
Complete our online enquiry form
- If you are unable to contact Birkbeck via the Clearing Hotline, or have difficulty getting through owing to high levels of call traffic, please complete the online enquiry form. Once you have submitted your enquiry, a member of Birkbeck staff will consider your application and will then contact you.
