Orientation at Birkbeck
In September, usually one week before term starts, Birkbeck runs a series of orientation events for new students. Orientation is designed to help you get off to a great start and settle into your studies.
One of the orientation events is specifically geared towards the needs of postgraduate students:
- There are stands and talks on all student support services, including disability and dyslexia, IT support, library services, and the My Birkbeck Helpdesk services.
- You can go on a library tour.
- The Students’ Union fair is part of orientation, and you can find out about clubs and societies.
- It’s a great opportunity to meet staff, get to know fellow new students and have a look around the campus.
What about more specific inductions into departments or for international students?
Alongside the general orientation events, more in-depth inductions are organised by academic departments, by the International Office and in Stratford.
These inductions are designed to provide you with more detailed information about your studies in a particular department, or if your classes are held in Stratford.
The international students’ induction provides detailed information on a range of topics, including visas, welfare and accommodation, to help you settle into your studies at Birkbeck and life in the UK.
International induction finishes with a reception and is a great opportunity to get to know other international students.
