Birkbeck provides a wealth of resources and training to support your studies, and our Central London location means that you will have access to some of the best libraries in the world.
Birbkeck library
- The Birkbeck Library, in the Malet Street building, is open seven days a week for most of the year.

Politics-specific libraries
- The library at the School of Slavonic and East European Studies (SSEES) is one of the leading teaching and research collections in the UK for the study of Central and Eastern Europe and Russia.
- As a member of the university of London, you may join the University of London Library in Senate House, which houses an impressive and wide-ranging collection of books and periodicals.
- You may be eligible to join a number of other University of London libraries. These include the Institute of Education, the School of Oriental and African Studies, UCL library and the Institute of Commonwealth Studies.
- The British Library of Politics, Economics and Sociology (BLPES) at the London School of Economics (LSE) is one of the best social science libraries in the United Kingdom and is a valuable resource for this programme. You will not be able to borrow books from the BLPES, but you will be entitled to a reference-only reader's ticket.
Electronic journals
- An increasing number of journals are now available on-line, through providers, such as JSTOR, Ingenta, Project Muse, SwetsWise, and PCI Full Text. E-journals can be accessed via the Birkbeck College Library website.
Bloomsbury Learning Environment
- An increasing number of lecturers use The Bloomsbury Learning Environment (BLE) to place notes and other materials online. This is Birkbeck's centrally-supported virtual learning environment (VLE), and is used extensively throughout the college.
