Parliamentary Studies class makes annual visit to Westminster

Birkbeck class visits with MPs in Westminster

On Wednesday 25 January, the undergraduate Parliamentary Studies class at Birkbeck made their annual trip to Parliament, where they watched a debate, talked careers and had a Q and A with two MPs.

The students, led by lecturer Dr Ben Worthy, questioned MPs Natascha Engel and Jacob Rees-Mogg about what their jobs were like, which parts they liked most or least about it and how Brexit may change what they do.

Birkbeck is one of only a handful of universities able to teach the Parliamentary Studies, which is delivered by Birkbeck lecturers as well as Parliamentary officials and includes a series of guest lecturers by academics and journalists.

The course aims to give students a better understanding of how legislatures work and their role within the modern political system. The Parliamentary Studies is available as an option module to students on our BA Politics and BA Global Politics and International Relations programmes.
