Professor Bob Hale

Visiting Professor

Bob Hale is an emeritus professor and professor of metaphysics in Sheffield, where he now works part-time. Previously, he was professor of metaphysical philosophy in Glasgow, and before that reader in logic and metaphysics in St Andrews, and lecturer in Lancaster. He has been a British Academy Research Reader, and more recently a Leverhulme Senior Research Fellow. He has worked, and continues to work, mainly in the philosophy of mathematics and philosophical logic, and related areas of metaphysics and epistemology. In the first of these areas, he has mainly been engaged in the development and defence, often in collaboration with Crispin Wright, of the neo-Fregean programme; in the latter, he has worked mostly on the metaphysics and epistemology of modality.
