Professor Jennifer Hornsby

Jennifer Hornsby’s BA, MPhil and PhD are from Oxford, London and Cambridge respectively. She was a founder member of the Centre for the Study of the Mind in Nature, Oslo, and has been CoDirector of its Rational Agency section since 1997. She has held research positions in U.S.A., Australia and Norway. She is Emeritus Fellow of Corpus Christi College, Oxford where she was a Tutorial Fellow from 1978 until she came to Birkbeck where she has taught since 1995. She was President of the Aristotelian Society 1995–6. She was elected a Fellow of the Norwegian Academy in 2010. She will be President of the Mind Association 2013–4.

Workshops
Jen has organized 3 recent Workshops.
Two were Birkbeck based, and focus on topics in the project of Christos Douskos from the University of Parts who holds a Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Department. These are: Habits, Skills and Action Explanation, 23 March, 2013; and Aspect, Process and Know-How, 11 May, 2013.
The third Workshop, on Helen Steward’s book A Metaphysics for Freedom, was held at C.S.M.N., Oslo, 4–6 April, 2013. A special issue of Inquiry containing eight papers from the workshop with Helen Steward’s reply will be published in late 2013.
