My book, Objects of Metaphor, was published by Oxford University Press in 2005, and I am now working on a further book, extending one of its central ideas to a fundamental issue on the border between the philosophies of mind and language. That issue, indeed dispute, concerns the putative priority (or otherwise) of thought and language, and this will be approached by considering both relevant philosophical arguments and recent work in developmental psychology on concept formation and language acquisition. I feel sure that material in my earlier book on metaphor can show us a way to reconceive the philosophical debate, as well as casting light on the fascinating work in psychology that has appeared in the last decade or so. The book, The Roots of Categorization, is under contract with Oxford University Press and should appear in 2012.
I have also published Reading Ethics (Wiley-Blackwell, 2008) with Miranda Fricker.
A piece of a rather different sort - a memoir of my meeting and working with Isaiah Berlin (as research assistant) in New York in 1966 - was published in a volume celebrating the 100th anniversary of Isaiah Berlin's birthday in June 2009.
I am the Executive Editor of the interdisciplinary journal Mind & Language.
