Birkbeck has one of the UK’s leading Philosophy departments. In the most recent Research Assessment Exercise (2008), Birkbeck retained the high standing attained in previous years: the research work of all of the Faculty's members was assessed, and 100% of it was judged to be of quality that is internationally recognized. Moreover, the School gives high priority not only to research but also to providing the best possible teaching: we scored a maximum 24/24 in the most recent Teaching Quality Assessment.

Birkbeck Department of Philosophy admits students for higher education degrees at all levels.

At undergraduate level, students enrolled in the department's part-time BA study over four years. Full-time students study the same courses but follow an accelerated programme allowing them to complete the same BA in three years. Click here for more details.

At postgraduate level, we offer an MA, and two research degrees - MPhil Stud and PhD. These degrees can all be studied full-time or part-time.
