Biography
Steven joined the School of Law at Birkbeck in 2015 and is currently Programme Director for the BSc in Criminology and Criminal Justice, and Programme Director for the Certificate in Criminology. He joined Birkbeck from the School of Law at the University of Leeds, where he was a member of the Centre for Criminal Justice Studies (CCJS) and the Security & Justice Research Group.
Steven is a member of the British Society of Criminology (BSC), the European Society of Criminology (ESC), the WhiteRose Network on Public and Private Policing, the British International Studies Association (BISA), and the Crime, Science and Politics Group of the ESC.

Research
Research overview
Steven's current research explores different theories and models of intelligence, security and risk. He is particularly interested in the way in which different techniques coalesce around certain problems, including (organized) crime, terrorism, and other security related threats. Steven recently co-edited an interdisciplinary Special Issue of the British Journal of Criminology which brought together leading security scholars from law, criminology, politics, sociology and international relations.
