Dr Alan Redman

CPsychol, CSci, AFBPsS

Alan is a Visiting Teaching Fellow in the Department of Organizational Psychology, a chartered psychologist, and a HCPC-Registered occupational psychologist. He contributes ad hoc lectures to several modules, supervises budding practitioner psychologists as part of our professional doctorate programmes, and supports the department by providing shiny psychometrics. In his day job, Alan works as the Head of Science & Technology with Criterion, one of the UK’s leading test publishers and occupational psychology consultancies.

He specialises in the development of technology-led assessment and psychometrics design and has created award-winning systems for a range of clients including Asda, Centrica, Travelodge and the Civil Service. Over the last 20 years, Alan has delivered organisational psychology consultancy projects across a diverse range of businesses in the private, pubic, and third sectors

Alan has performed in a range of volunteer roles with the British Psychological Society including Chair of the Division of Occupational Psychology, Senior BPS Occupational Testing verifier and member of the Committee for Testing Standards.

Alan’s research interests focus on the psychology of cycle-commuting; understanding how behaviour change happens in relation to decisions to ride to work. Unrelated to his research, Alan spends a significant proportion of his time on one of his bikes. You may spot him in all weathers cycling from the South Downs to the sea on his way to the Criterion offices. You may see him cycling across one of the UK’s cities on his way to a client’s offices. His time in the saddle has given him a thousand-yard-stare, a determined set to his jaw and oily fingernails.
