He joined Birkbeck in 2013 from Aston University having previously had a career outside academia. Following his service in the British Army, he was sponsored by the UK Home Office to carry out doctoral research into operational decision making by fire commanders. His PhD in Industrial Psycholgy was awarded by the University of Aberdeen in 2001. After an period in management consultancy, he moved to Aston Business School where (amongst other things) he taught a large group of first year business students Organisational Behaviour which became his calling card. He regards himself as privileged to have delivered their first university lecture to 13 successive entries of Aston students.
