As hundreds of students look forward to starting or continuing their studies in October, Birkbeck has been preparing to welcome them with a comprehensive online Orientation guide to ease them into life at Birkbeck.

This week, the College launched its ‘Welcome to Birkbeck’ online module, that will allow new and returning undergraduate and postgraduate students to find out key information about studying at Birkbeck, including how to access support tools and get an introduction to the Library, that has now re-opened with 200 study spaces that are available to book online. The online module contains videos, information and activities which can be accessed on a laptop, iPad or mobile phone and can be completed at each student’s own pace.

Students can also attend the Students’ Unions Welcome Week events, which will give them the opportunity to meet their student representatives and fellow students, as well as attend virtual events such as a cooking class, coding workshop and dance party.

Additionally, students are invited to attend Birkbeck’s Virtual Annual Careers Fair on Saturday 7 November, as well as a number of events that will be running throughout the Autumn term.

The changes to Orientation week come as the College prepares for the majority of teaching in the Autumn term to be done so virtually in order to ensure the safety of staff and students during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In order to access the Orientation module, students will need to enrol when they receive an invitation to do so. The College is still welcoming applications ahead of the start of term on Monday 5 October.
