Digging deep at Birkbeck

It's the basis of all life on earth, but how much do we really know about the ground beneath our feet? A new lecture series from The Birkbeck Institute of Environment and the Ecology and Conservation Studies Society aims to reveal more. Soil – a basis for life on earth will explore the immense diversity of soil types derived from variations in geology, topography, climate and organic material and their importance for sustaining life on earth.  How soil functions as a medium for plant growth, and how it is modified for agriculture and horticulture will also be covered.

Managing soil physical conditions in agriculture is the first in the series, given by Professor Richard Godwin. He holds Emeritus and Visiting Professorships in agricultural engineering at Cranfield University and Harper Adams University College respectively.  He frequently addresses UK and international audiences of farmers, advisors and manufacturers.

Friday 12 February, 6.30-8.30pm (doors open at 6pm), Clore Management Centre, Birkbeck, Torrington Square.

Join the debate. All welcome. Free admission. Booking is not necessary.
