Birkbeck is delighted to announce its new partnership with Itaú BBA International to provide two student scholarships. This scholarship initiative is aimed specifically at students from Brazil, who will be studying at undergraduate or postgraduate level at Birkbeck during the 2017-18 academic year. The scholarship recipients will be chosen based on the academic promise of their application and need.

The Brazilian Scholarships, supported by Itaú will provide vital support for gifted and highly motivated Brazilian students who otherwise would not be able to take advantage of the life-changing opportunities which Birkbeck can provide.

Professor Philip Powell, Pro Vice-Master of Enterprise and Innovation at Birkbeck, welcomed the new scholarship opportunities and commended Itaú for a wonderful gift to prospective students. “Brazil has tremendous human potential and we are delighted to extend our range of partnerships to support students from South America’s most important economy,” he said.

Renato Lulia, CEO of Itaú BBA International, said:

“We are excited to have partnered with Birkbeck to create the Brazilian Scholarship programme, supported by Itaú, for the academic year 2017/2018. This programme will help two Brazilian students study at Birkbeck, a leading higher educational institution in London. Supporting education and the belief that it has a transformative power is one of Itaú’s key values so we are delighted to have formed this partnership.”

Birkbeck has a history of strong relationships with Brazil and is proud of its large Brazilian student population. After delivering the 2013 Bernal lecture, Birkbeck Fellow Professor Glaucius Oliva, President of the Brazil National Council for Scientific and Technological Development, expressed  his hope to see more Brazilian students at Birkbeck in the future, because his time at Birkbeck ‘changed his life’.  Birkbeck’s partnership with Itaú BBA International represents a further move towards his vision for long-lasting collaboration.
