Dr Ronald awarded prestigious Spearman Medal
Dr Angelica Ronald, director of the Genes Environment Lifespan (GEL) laboratory, has been awarded the 2012 Spearman Medal
Dr Angelica Ronald, director of the Genes Environment Lifespan (GEL) laboratory and a Senior Lecturer at the Centre for Brain and Cognitive Development within the Department of Psychological Sciences, has been awarded the 2012 Spearman Medal by the British Psychological Society.
The Spearman Medal is awarded annually to an early-career psychologist for outstanding published work in psychology. It is the oldest award of the Society having been inaugurated in 1965 and won by many of the major figures in UK psychology. Dr Ronald, who joined Birkbeck in 2007, was awarded the medal in recognition of her work on autism.
Dr Ronald said: “I am delighted to receive the Spearman medal, and grateful to Professor Mike Oaksford for nominating me. It is an honour to join the list of past winners of this medal, many of whom have had a big influence on me whether as mentors, colleagues or inspirational figures of science”.
Professor Mike Oaksford, Head of the Department of Psychological Sciences, who nominated Dr Ronald for the award, said: “I am delighted that Angelica’s contribution to the field of psychology, and particularly the study of autism, has been recognised with this prestigious award.”
Dr Ronald will give a speech at the AGM of the British Psychological Society next April.
