The College has received formal notification from the Privy Council, dated 16 July 2012, confirming the power to award taught and research degrees. The prestigious award is national recognition of the quality of teaching and research at Birkbeck and the College's ability to set and maintain academic standards and procedures
Birkbeck expects in general to hold its degree awarding powers in reserve and to continue to award University of London degrees for the forseeable future.
