Congratulations to incoming students

A warm welcome to all students collecting their exam results today and beginning their journeys at Birkbeck. There are still places left on many courses through clearing - call 020 3907 0700 to apply, and come along to our Clearing Open Day on Saturday to see why more people are choosing evening study at Birkbeck.

Birkbeck's main campus on Malet Street

Around the UK and further afield, thousands of students are collecting their exam results and finding out where they’ll be spend the next few years studying. Those of you who will be joining Birkbeck this year – congratulations!

We look forward to welcoming you to our campus and showing you everything Birkbeck has to offer; from our exceptional teaching spaces and libraries, to the vibrant central and east London locations, and the unparalleled opportunities to get a head-start on your career by gaining work experience during the daytime, while attending lectures in the evening.

For those of you who haven’t made up your mind yet, we will be holding a Clearing Open Day on Saturday 17 August for all prospective students who have been offered a place through clearing, and those thinking of applying.

Running from 11am – 2pm, you’ll have the opportunity to ask any questions you have about Birkbeck to members of staff and current students, and to look around our campus and facilities.

While UCAS applications for universities around the country have only gone up 0.2% this year, Birkbeck has bucked the trend with a 7% increase in applications for full-time undergraduate courses. Lynn Grimes, Director of Marketing and External Relations at Birkbeck, said: “More and more, people are recognising the strengths of a Birkbeck, University of London degree for their future prospects. As lectures and seminars are held in the evening, students are free to build up their work experience through interning or volunteering during the day, providing them with a competitive advantage when they come to look for jobs after graduation – no wonder data shows salaries for our graduates are way above sector averages. We can’t wait to welcome the next cohort of ambitious students to Birkbeck in October.”

What is clearing?

Clearing is a way of applying to university if you have missed the deadline for UCAS but wish to find a place on our full-time undergraduate courses, including certificates of higher education, foundation degrees as well as BA, BSc and LLB degrees.

You can apply for 2019 entry by calling our clearing hotline on 020 3907 0700, with key staff from different academic departments available to discuss courses and offers from 8am to 6pm on A-Level/IB results day, Thursday 15 August, and 9am to 6pm on the following day, Friday 16 August.

From the 19th August onwards, the phone lines will be open from 10am. Clearing continues through to the start of October for those wishing to join Birkbeck in 2019. If the phone lines are busy, you can fill in the clearing application form instead.

Why choose Birkbeck?

Birkbeck offers a unique teaching model, holding its classes in the evening, so students have the days to themselves for anything from internships, work, volunteering, or just doing their own thing. In addition to studying at a world-class, research-intensive university, recognised for its high-quality teaching, students leave with a degree awarded by the University of London.

The main campus also puts them at the heart of London, surrounded by world-famous museums and galleries, entertainment hubs, business and government, while the University Square Stratford offers teaching in the heart of the Stratford’s cultural quarter – located moments from Stratford Circus and Theatre Royal Stratford, and within easy reach of Stratford Westfield, transport links and the Olympic Park.
