Birkbeck Talent, Birkbeck’s in-house recruitment agency for finding students and graduates work across London, is officially launching.
Birkbeck Talent, Birkbeck’s in-house recruitment agency for finding students and graduates work across London, is officially launching.
Having run as a pilot project in 2015, the service is now expanding to Birkbeck’s entire student community, enabling anyone currently studying at the College to benefit from the opportunity Birkbeck Talent offers to secure meaningful work experience while studying.
In addition to helping students secure paid work, Birkbeck Talent works closely with the College’s Careers and Employability Service, so that students benefit from tailored careers advice and support, through access to face-to-face coaching and innovative online resources.
Since the agency was established, Birkbeck Talent has gone from strength to strength, with 444 students attending interviews and assessment centres with a further 167 being placed in jobs or paid internships. The service has established relationships with employers across a huge range of sectors, including digital technology solutions firm Kainos, transport firm South West Trains, leading cook-from-scratch delivery service Hello Fresh and luxury retail brand The East India Company.
Simba Mudonzvo, a student at Birkbeck currently completing an undergraduate degree in Computing, has benefitted from Birkbeck Talent finding him a role at ASUS, the multinational computer hardware and electronics company. Speaking about his experience, he said:
“During my second year at Birkbeck, the Birkbeck Talent team approached me about various roles, and the ASUS one shone out as a really exciting way into a fulfilling career.
“I have been with ASUS for a few months now and I have grown in confidence enough to really make the role my own. I use my theoretical knowledge from university and my own initiative to work out what is trending, market-wise, and then I apply it in the real world of business.
